Earlier today Trump’s healthcare bill did not get the 215 votes needed to pass in congress. The House Speaker Paul Ryan made the decision with Mr Trump to withdraw after they realised they did not get enough Republican votes. Throughout Trump’s campaign during the elections, removing Obamacare was one of his main policies, but his plans to replace it have been postponed.
The President assured that Obamacare will “cease to exist at some point in the near future”. Reports have shown that Republicans were in opposition of Trumps new ‘American Health Care Act’, figures show between 28 and 35 opposed. The public also seemed to be not keen on the new health bill, in a recent poll only 17% approved it.
Despite that President Trump thinks the result of the new health bill not coming into effect is the Democrats doing. Trump said “with no democrats aboard, we couldn’t quite get there. They have Obamacare for a little while longer until it ceases to exist.” However he is sure that “Obamacare is exploding”.
Ryan told reporters “I won’t sugar coat this, this is a disappointing day for us”. However Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat and House minority leader said it was “a good day” for Americans and mentioned that the democrats have worked hard to assure there is good, affordable healthcare in the United States.
